Plans for building a 240-bed hotel, water park and conference facility at the Longleat estate in Wiltshire could potentially create 300 jobs should they receive the green light, a news report in the local business media has been able to suggest.

Longleat Enterprises, the commercial arm of the 465-year-old estate, has lodged plans with Wiltshire Council for a 240-bedroom hotel resort, aimed at enabling families to extend their stay at the park.

It is also proposing the construction of a water park and conferencing facilities as part of the hotel, able to cater for up to 200 delegates. Multi-purpose entertaining and ancillary buildings would also be created.

It is hoped that the water park will provide an additional all-year-round facility that will enable the business to balance the seasonal nature of the Safari and Adventure Park.

The development is expected to cost about £45m and create a number of jobs during the two-year construction phase. Once open, the new facilities will create about 300 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs and support more indirectly.

Bob Montgomery, the chief executive of Longleat Enterprises, said: "We believe Longleat is uniquely placed to own and create a tourist destination that will help sustain the Estate for future generations while being of benefit to all of the attractions within a 40-minute drive time from Warminster.

"We received a lot of support during our year-long consultation with our local communities and the key stakeholders in the county, so we are hopeful that the outline planning application currently with Wiltshire Council will be approved."

Multiple jobs have been saved after a Salisbury electronics designer, which counts Formula 1 teams and automotive manufacturers among its clients, was sold out of administration, a business news source has revealed.

ML Electronics, founded in 1995, designs and manufactures innovative electronic products for its clients.

The company has previously worked with UK-based Formula 1 teams, supercar manufacturers and electric and hydrogen powered vehicle makers as well as in the green energy, medical and art sectors. It lists Amstrad, Renishaw, QinetiQ and Thales among its clients.

The firm put in place a growth plan which required an investment in additional staffing. However, turnover did not increase in line with expectations and it began to struggle financially.

As a result, administrators were called in on 12 January 2017. A sale was later completed to Mike Lloyd, who set up the business 22 years ago with his wife. The move secured the future of 19 employees.

Any restructuring and operations’ streamlining processes are never good for employees and the respective companies’ HR departments, but Time & Attendance South West can help firms navigate easier through these troubled times.

The plans submitted by not-for-profit housing and support organisation Curo cover a maximum of 700 new homes, at least 30 per cent of which would be affordable. The outline planning application follows three years of consultation with the council, local residents and stakeholders.
