  1. Plans for building 600 new homes in Cornwall set for approval

    Plans for two residential developments comprising close to 600 new homes are set to be approved by councillors in Cornwall following their submission next week, a recent news report has been able to suggest.

    An outline application has been submitted for a site in Helston, adjacent to the Flambards theme park, while a separate scheme from Redrow Homes proposes residential development on the outskirts of Wadebridge.

    The schemes will be discussed at a meeting of Cornwall Council’s strategic planning committee on 25 August 2015.

    Both are recommended for approval subject to the signing of Section 106 orders to secure affordable housing provision and contributions to education and highways.

    Under the Helston scheme, a total of 404 houses would be built with 25 per cent of these earmarked for affordable housing, while Redrow’s application proposes 190 homes, 30 per cent of which would be affordable housing, and land for a new primary school on a site on the outskirts of Wadebridge.

    In order to facilitate the building of a new school, the developer would transfer 2.7 acres of land to the council. Public open space will also be provided, including a new sport pitch.

  2. Plans put forward for office development set to create up to 500 new jobs

    A property investor has submitted plans for an office development in Cheltenham which could support the creation of up to 500 jobs, a news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

    Formal Investments’ scheme comprises more than 80,000 sq ft of office space which is envisaged would become the new headquarters for a major international business keen to relocate to the town.

    Subject to the plans receiving permission, construction could begin in 2017 with the occupier moving to Cheltenham in 2019.

  3. Plans submitted for 300 home development in Weston-super-Mare

    Plans to build 300 new homes at the Locking Parklands scheme in Weston-super-Mare have been submitted by developer St Modwen, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

  4. Aerospace manufacturer to open new Bristol factory

    One of the UK’s best-known aerospace solutions manufacturers has opened a new factory in Bristol that is set to employ up to 40 members of staff when it reaches its full production capability, a business news report reveals.

    Rolls-Royce has opened the new facility on its Patchway complex, as part of the company’s SILOET programme to accelerate the development and introduction of low-carbon aircraft engine technology. The £4m, two-year ENABLES factory project was supported by the aerospace R&D funding programme, a partnership between the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills, the Aerospace Technology Institute and Innovate UK.

    The facility develops engine technology that will be used to power Boeing 787 and Airbus A330neo airliners from next year.

    It currently employs 20 staff with this number expected to rise to 40 when it reaches full production next year.

    Justin Dalton, chief project engineer at Rolls-Royce, said: "It’s novel technology that embeds the electrical harness within a composite raft structure. It’s one of a number of technologies that Rolls-Royce is developing."

  5. Weymouth residential development plans set for approval

    Plans for building a new residential development scheme featuring around 340 homes on a new site in Weymouth are likely to take a step forward after councillors recommended to approve the scheme at a meeting later this week, a recent news report has been able to suggest.

    The 40.2-acre site earmarked for the development is predominantly used as farmland and is located close to the Broadwey area of Weymouth.

    A total of 340 homes would be built while 35 per cent of the properties would be set aside for affordable housing. A large area of public parkland would also be included in the centre of the site.

    The new development would link to Nottington Lane at two separate points, with a further access proposed off Dorchester Road.

    A contribution of £950 per property will be made towards improvements to the Redlands Sports Hub and £452 per property to Weymouth Swimming Pool works. Funding will also go towards a series of projects at nearby schools.

    The plans will be considered at a meeting of Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s planning committee on 6 July 2016.

    Councillors are recommended to approve the scheme subject to conditions including a Section 106 order that would secure the affordable housing and financial contributions.

  6. Development work begins on new multi-million pound scheme near Bournemouth Airport

    Construction work has started on a multimillion-pound commercial property development near Bournemouth Airport, a news report in the local business media has been able to find.

    Stoford has secured forward funding from Global Gate Capital for a 160,000 sq ft unit, including 45,000 sq ft of offices and a 115,000 sq ft production unit, on a 10.64-acre site.

    Planning was approved by Christchurch Borough Council last year after proposals were submitted by Stoford and land owner MAG Property, the property and development arm of Manchester Airports Group (MAG), which owns and operates Bournemouth Airport.

    The forward funding arrangements for the project have been completed alongside the simultaneous acquisition of a nine-acre site from MAG.

  7. New logistics facility that could support up to 200 jobs to be built in Bristol

    A new 130,000 sq ft logistics facility, which could support the creation of about 200 jobs, is set to be built on a Bristol business park, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

    Logistics group Davies Turner has agreed a deal for the scheme, that will be located on Delta Properties’ Central Park development, with construction set to start in September 2016.     "Since January this year, we have signed up The Range, Lidl, Davies Turner and Mountpark Logistics. In total, we will be building nearly 2.4 million sq ft at Central Park over the next 12 months. This scale is unprecedented in the south west for a logistics scheme – in fact, unprecedented in the whole of the UK for a single location."
