Plans put forward by developer Taylor Wimpey for a large residential-led scheme in South Gloucestershire are set to be approved by the local authorities, a local news source was able to reveal.

The company wants to build 550 houses on a 37-acre site in Stoke Gifford. Planners at South Gloucestershire Council have recommended the project be approved, subject to certain conditions.

Taylor Wimpey is seeking outline planning for the full 550 units and full planning for phase one of the development, consisting of 279 houses plus retail and leisure space. A separate application is under consideration by Bristol City Council for open space at the southern end of the site.

Of the proposed properties for the first phase, 98 of them will be classed as affordable housing.

  9. Time and attendance monitoring is vital for a solid employee-wide development

Solid and reliable time and attendance monitoring solutions will become increasingly important as the number of employees in the construction sector grows as a direct result of national building workloads reaching their highest rate in 20 years.

The RICS Q3 Construction Market Survey revealed that 39 per cent of chartered surveyors in the South West have reported a rise in activity despite a skills shortage, compared to 35 per cent in August.

"Unprecedented housing demand, the bounce back from a very deep recession and government’s commitment to invest £36bn in over 200 infrastructure projects is driving much-needed confidence across the industry, translating into UK workloads sentiment now standing at its highest level in two decades," said Alan Muse, RICS director of built environment.

Main barriers that were said to be limiting building activity included a shortage of labour, access to finance and a shortage of materials. In fact, almost half (48 per cent) of respondents also said there was a lack of quantity surveyors, with 41 per cent reporting a shortage of other construction professionals.

The serious pick-up in activity levels across the construction segment is likely to result in a hiring spree, but managing all of these new employees will require a very solid and reliable time and attendance system. This is specifically where Time & Attendance South West could help, given the fact that we have the necessary expertise to provide customers with a complete and comprehensive bespoke solution, that will perfectly fit their requirements.

  10. Weston-Super-Mare to undergo major regeneration

The town of Weston-super-Mare is set to undergo a major regeneration, according to plans set to be unveiled by the North Somerset Council, a news source close to the matter was able to recently reveal.

The blueprint is still in development and is aiming to transform the North Somerset resort into a "major centre for urban living" over the next ten years, with a particular focus on retail, leisure and residential development.

The proposals will also outline the need for a learning hub for further education and associated facilities based around a new university campus.

Nigel Ashton, the leader of North Somerset Council, said: "Here we have a real opportunity to shape the future of Weston-super-Mare’s town centre in the face of changing consumer shopping habits, and to ensure the area is recognised as a centre of excellence in a number of fields.

"Skills and learning are critical for economic growth and development, and our work so far in these areas demonstrates how we are prepared to think big and bold."

The plans follow significant projects in the town, including a £30m seafront enhancement scheme.

Although the council said this has been a "catalyst" for attracting investment, the scale and pace of development activity "has been slow to materialise".

Residential developers involved in extensive redevelopments should also seriously consider implementing a very solid and reliable time and attendance system. This is specifically where Time & Attendance South West could help, given the fact that we have the necessary expertise to provide customers with a complete and comprehensive bespoke solution, that will perfectly fit their requirements.
