Pomegranate drinks producer RJA Foods Ltd in Wick, which trades as PomeGreat, might be on its way to recovery, after being sold to a new company ACPT Ltd after entering administration.
According to a news report in the local media, the new company is formed out of a former director and a new investor, and the deal has managed to salvage the jobs of all staff members.
Gerald Krasner of Begbies Traynor was appointed joint administrator of RJA Foods a couple of weeks ago, and is quite happy with the results of the deal, especially since it will provide a "substantial return" for its creditors
"PomeGreat is one of the best known brands of fruit drinks in the UK with excellent distribution and a loyal customer base. Unfortunately, its parent company suffered from pressure on margins and increased competition.
Having approached some of the company’s competitors, as we expected, there was strong interest in acquiring the business and three bids were submitted. The sale to ACPT Ltd is great news for the business, staff and customers and, based on estimated realisations, creditors will receive, at minimum, a very substantial dividend.
"In the hands of its new owners, the business is in an excellent position to build on the strength of its PomeGreat brand," said Mr. Krasner.

The South West-focused commercial developer London and Devonshire Trust (LDT) have just officially launched a new 22-acre business park in a former brownfield near Plymouth.
According to a news report in the local media, the Plymouth Enterprise Park (PEP) is located in an area that previously housed a manufacturing facility and offers both industrial and business space with Fulcrum Power also proposing to build a generation facility at the site.
LDT managing director Daniel Stephenson said: "The launch of Plymouth Enterprise Park is a significant step for the company as it is our first site in Plymouth. We are confident this is the right time to invest in the city with its profile rising as an important strategic regional hub. The growing trend of manufacturing businesses looking to bring their operations back to the UK and the proximity of the port, make Plymouth increasingly appealing as a choice business location."

A new store belonging to one of the biggest names in the flat pack industry will be opened in Exeter in 2015, and beside offering customers faster and easier access to the company’s products, it will also lead to the creation of around 300 jobs.
According to a recent report, Swedish giant IKEA plans to submit a formal application for the site in around one month’s time. Depending on planning approval, building work on the new store is due to start at the beginning of 2014, and it should be ready for opening in 2015.
The site will be a fairly large one, since it’s estimated to have a floor area of about 20,000 square meters. Any store of this size and magnitude requires the installation of an extensive access control and time attendance system, and this is exactly where Time & Attendance South West can help.

A recent report by Lloyds TSB paints a fairly bleak picture as far as the South West’s private sector economy is concerned.
According to the Lloyds TSB South West PMI report, the area recorded a significant decrease last month and jobs were lost in the process.
Furthermore, employment levels across both manufacturing and service sectors decreased for the third month in a row in February, although the rate of job shedding eased from January and was only slight.
Unfortunately, a shrinking in the business activity is often associated to slight staff decreases, or at least a thorough re-evaluation of employees in order to make them as efficient and effective as possible. And the basis for any such process is represented by their respective attendance records.
Time & Attendance South West’s comprehensive WinTA.NET suite (in its various versions) offers just about every bit of functionality required for an adequate, objective evaluation of employees based on their attendance and activity records.
Whether we’re talking about worked shifts, absence records, holidays, etc., our high-end solutions enable customers to gain a very broad picture of their employee’s activity and take well-informed decisions regarding their level of efficiency and improvement requirements.

Unfortunately, this move will also affect the company’s two stores in Cheltenham, as well as the one in Tewkesbury and Cirencester. However, Thomas Cook is yet to reveal what stores are going to close, with a staff consultation to follow before an official announcement is made.

One of Devon’s biggest private employers is to lose the majority of its jobs, it was revealed this week. More than 100 of those jobs are expected to be axed at the Buckfast site of Axminster Carpets. Representative of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership, Tim Jones, said the wider effect on Buckfast could be “devastating”. He said: “A local supply chain has risen in Buckfast over many, many years. Up to 50 jobs could be lost at such suppliers."

Forest of Dean engineering company Versarien is set for a massive expansion, as it plans to start trading on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of the London Stock Exchange in order to get required funding.
The company has developed a heat transfer copper for use in cooling systems in computing and power condition equipment, that apparently manages to seriously reduce the dangers of overheating.
Versarien estimates an average AIM valuation of around £12 million, that would enable it to go ahead with the £2.3 million take over Total Carbide Limited, a long established advanced materials company, and expand its operation afterwards.
After the merger, the company’s employee roster will be bolstered from the current 11 up to 60, with even more jobs being planned for the future. Any such expansion is bound to be plagued by various personnel-related issues. Things tend to get even more complicated when specific access privileges and a higher level of access security is required, as is the case with Versarien.
However, Time and Attendance South West offers a comprehensive set of solutions targeting specifically this type of situations. Our bespoke time and attendance systems are comprised of Smart Card Time & Attendance solutions, Time & Security clocking stations, as well as Fingerprint Biometrics access. HR and Security management, as well as Integrated Access Control can also be included in the package.
Our products suit the needs of a variety of customers (from businesses up to multi site, enterprise-oriented systems), their impressive level of customization playing a very important part in offering a solution that fully meets your expectations and requirements.
Production at a Swindon car plant is being scaled back with staff now working single shifts. The move from double to single day shifts is taking place at Car Plant Two on the site at South Marston. A voluntary redundancy programme opened last week and car plant owners Honda said there had been a “positive response”. The company, which started constructing cars in Swindon in 1992, blamed falling sales across Europe for the drop in demand.
If your firm or factory is changing its shift patterns and hours of work, it can be simply done using an integrated Time & Attendance South West clocking network. A number of basic rules control how hours are calculated. These include settings to separate ‘worked time’ in order to handle night shift working and inserting unpaid breaks if employees do not clock them. You can also enable breaks to activate between set times, and / or after a minimum number of hours have been worked.
There are plans to convert the old blue toilet block in central Frome into an art café. The building presently contains a series of glass blocks containing historic local artefacts, known as the Singers Links, which were created by local artist Helga Watkins-Baker. Local businesswoman Katy Duke said: “When I saw that the Singers Links were deteriorating, I was worried that we might lose a part of Frome’s history, so we came up with an idea to re-use the building.”
A state of the art business system from Time and Attendance South West will dramatically improve your HR and security management with features that give you irrefutable control over Time & Attendance and building access. We and our associates also specialise in a wide range of toilet access equipment, which cope with high traffic volumes and conform to strict security standards. The turnstiles put up with severe operating conditions and can be galvanised with polyester powder coat finish for extra durability.
